The 6s travelled down to Old Willies for what was sure to be a tough game. A slight change to the lineup saw in form Tom drop alongside brother Will in midfield in honour of the Mighty Ducks "Bash Bros" aiming to disrupt. Old Willies hit early to take the lead, but Ash didn't let their heads drop and continued to battle through the first half, scaring the opposition on the counter attack with Ben up front unlucky not to convert. A second goal came for Old Willies later into the half. 2-0 HT.
A rousing half time chat led to Ash scoring only seconds into the second half. A quick move down the right with James, crossed into Andy at the top of the D who shot and Ben turned home from close range followed by his traditional Super Mario celebration. Alas the oppo struck back immediately from pushback to make it back to 3-1. Ash continued to fight and showed exceptional heart under the light of the full Halloween moon, but ultimately Old Willies found a 4th goal. Back in attack with 5 to go, Ash won a short corner, injected by Tom and slotted away in the bottom right by James to create a frantic finish to the game. After a goal line save from oppo centre forward, denying their youngster what would have been only his second career goal, a dive Tom Daley would have been proud of under pressure from Kaan, Old Willies found a 5th and that brought a close to the game.
So many positives to take from this match, its the 4th consecutive game the 6s have scored twice in, the young Sam, Uly and Will were incredibly strong showing great stick skills and a great work rate, Sam in particular was run ragged by the oppo right mid but never gave up and fought to the last. Callum was huge again in goal, dominated his D and made several fantastic saves. I won't name everyone, but each member of the squad put an absolute shift in and should be thoroughly proud of themselves.
Unfortunately this will be the last game for a while, but it was a great game enjoyed by all and an honourable scoreline against the top team in the division.
I hope everyone keeps well over this next lockdown, and I look forward to seeing you all soon!
