Ash lined up with minor changes on the previous week for what was expected to be a hotly contested game against relegated Holcombe. Ash started the stronger of the two sides creating chances and playing good possession hockey. Tom, after hitting the woodwork from atop the D, was denied a glorious finish from a short for not leaving the D, hmm I'll allow it, Ross was on hand to finish moments later. Seemingly milling around in the goal, the ball came in from the left and he finished nonchalantly, almost confused as to how he ended up with the ball. Holcombe battled back scoring from a squared ball. HT 1-1.
Ash were resilient at half time, adamant that the 3 points were there for us. We won more short corners, a slipped pass from Griffiths 1 to Griffiths 2 hit a foot on the line for what must have been a P flick, but Euge was on hand to stroke home inches from the line. Strong will and discipline saw Ash clinch the 3 despite Holcomes best efforts. A huge block from debutant Luke Vilain and following save from massive Murphy in goal . FT 2-1.
A brilliant performance from every member of the 14 man squad and a big 3 points on the board early season.
Next week we revisit Gillingham following our preseason encounter. MOTM Luke Vilain.
