The 6s arrived on a glorious day at Hurstmere looking to kick start their season having failed to register any points, or even goals, from the first 2 games.
After a rapid, end to end start to the game, Ash fell behind midway through the first half. After creating numerous goal scoring opportunities, Dom Tyler eventually buried the 6s first goal of the season following some brilliant build up play, assisted by a driving run from Will Griffiths before responding to the call from the top of the D, which was slammed home. HT 1-1.
It's fair to say Ash started the second half on the back foot, with Ashford looking dangerous, but continued efforts from the back kept them at bay while Ash won short corner after short corner on the break. Every short caused havoc for the Ashford defence, leaving them scrambling each time, but at the 5th attempt Michael Wederell deflected a shot from the top home. Ash continued to press and win shorts before Tom Griffiths turned home another off the post and in. Ashford turned on the press, managing to score from a short, 3-2, squeaky bum time. Another late Ashford short gave them the chance to level, but Burnt Ash held out to take home the first 3 points of the season. FT 3-2.
Special mention to Tim Masters who put in once of the best individual performances of recent years, winning the ball in defence and carrying to the opposition half time and time again.
Happy birthdays to James Brooker and Ed Andrews.
