A day that started out with rain and chill, very soon turned to sun and cheer as Peter Billane rolled his bandwagon to the coast.

Folkestone had been on an excellent run of form and proved to be tough opposition. But the team worked really well together and for each other, and that won the day out.

Ash started well, with Posh Hawes-Gatt causing problems with his hard running. The reward was a short corner. Now I have discussed our shorts before, how in Steve Rudduck with have possibly the hardest strike in world hockey, that backboards have been heard to say “ouch” and astros have had scorch marks. Today was one of those days and the first goal Steve scored was a thing of pure beauty, divine timing and vicious power.

The highlight of the game was a slick move between the Rudduck’s and Herridge, which led to the ball finding Wortherds in the D who calmly slotted home.

Then, if I tell you that this time the backboard actually swore, can you guess what happened next? Short corner, PoM Rudduck strike, no-one moved, send the 3 points back up the A20.

From that point on Ash we’re in control, so much so that Cap’n Birdseye even decided to play in slow motion mode.

A great win on the road, great performance, great team.
