I can’t find the superlatives to describe how wet the pitch was, some parts were so flooded the astro actually had waves. But that was never going to stop us, in fact, when the team plays like this, it would take a tsunami to stop us.
I also just want to point out, despite being a league game, with local bragging rights to boot, the game was played in an excellent, friendly, fun spirit.
Ed Ward-Hawes-Gatt opened the scoring for Ash, proving once again that he is clinical from 3 inches. A fine strike by Rudduck the elder was deftly touched in by Billane to double the lead.
Then Cluett, suffering from a nose bleed due to the altitude, found the ball at his stick in the D. Encouraged by Rudduck the elder, in no uncertain terms, Cluett revisited the 80’s and slammed the ball home, whilst on roller skates wearing baggy jeans.
BBHC tried hard, but all due respect, after the first goal I don’t think the result was in doubt. Some of my colleagues however had much more confidence and at one point decided that only 9 out on pitch would suffice. By “at one point”, I mean 10 minutes before they noticed.
It’s been a long, tough season, but it also been tremendous fun, the team ethos has been superb and we have stayed true to playing our style of hockey, total hockey.
Thanks go to all the back office people who have made our season possible and all the umpires who have been lucky enough to do our games. The whole team deserve immense thanks, there were times when we could have folded or changed our style, but I really am proud to have been a part of this team and this season.
Of course, can’t finish without mentioning our captain Peter Billane, who has worked tirelessly and selflessly all season to make our fun possible. He has led us brilliantly and goes off to enjoy a well earned break now.
