Russets peeled, pressed, fermented, distilled and imbibed

So now, I face the final curtain, it’s been an amazing season, of that I’m certain. Regrets, I’ve had a few, such as drawing with TWellies 2-2. But through it all we stayed and played as a team, which saw us home in the end.
Never truer than today, let’s be honest, by our standards we were shocking. We weren’t bad, we were awful, terrible, laughable, bordering on pathetic, but we won! To be fair, ravaged by selection issues, we were missing 4 starters and called up two of the promising youngster from the victorious development team, Harry Harvey & Peter Clench, both showing huge potential for the future and not one step out of place at this level.
I know the Welsh Dragons will be reading this, so best to mention that Griffiths T scored twice today, one a tap in and one a Worldie, and best not to mention the swing late in the game that was so full of power it threw him off his feet. If only he had hit the ball too.
But the story of the day, again, has to be George in goal. He has always had the reflexes of a cat of bonfire night, but he now has a command of the D and a reading of the game to match. I have no doubt he won us the game today, and neither did the opposition who were also stunned by his performance, another team stating he was the best player on the pitch.
I did laugh too, one of the friendlier (hmm) of the oppo said to Chris Hammond, “ you lot are rubbish, how did you win the league”, Chris smiled, showing his perfectly polished molars, pointed at George and said, “because we have him”. True, true, true.
It’s another 1 in the W column, another 3 in the P column, but as Tom scored them both, I’m not mentioning the F column. Is it me, or does that sound like a Bond villain.
Anyway, once more into the breach dear friends, once more, next week, then you will be done with me forever, mwhahhahhahhah.
Thanks to Skippy Ned for organising us, to clan Coles (and anyone I have forgotten) for supporting us, thanks to Matt for the mid game comfort break and special thanks to Mike Course and Dave Ovenall for a sublime umpiring performance.
