Veni vidi vici v oaks

Why have I never used that tagline before, feeling smug, I quite like that one.
Anyway, enough about me, let’s talk about hockey, how do you think I played today?
For as long as I can remember, way back to the last 15 minutes, Ash have been blessed with goalkeepers. Names such as (but not only these) Ovenell, Jenkins and Saunders, not only great keepers but outstanding ambassadors for the game and the club. At least one of them has a unique style that has to be seen to be believed.
Based on this season and especially on today, it is surely only a matter of time before Coles is mentioned in that illustrious group too. Such was the display that George put on today, not only did it secure the win, but it even got the PoM vote from the opposition too. Only other time I have seen that happen was when the opposition centre forward scored 9 goals against us, truth.
Away from our goal, this was a hard fought, slightly scrappy but ultimately deserved win. Honestly we start like a Morris Minor on a February morning, but after a short corner straight off the training pitch, Billane calmed slotted. In the blink of an eye, Hulk Herridge showed how clinical he is from 3 inches to make it 2-0.
Then the tandem champagne moment occurred, when a good move down the left led to the ball heading towards Griffiths W, with the goal at his mercy, literally. Turns out, the goal was quite safe.
However, in the second half, Griffiths W then drove into the D and tried to slip the ball to an array of waiting red shirts. His aim was slightly off and as the ball was sliding off the pitch, the keeper calmly stepped over the ball. Imagine his shock when he realised he was standing in the goal and that Will had just scored.
It wasn’t pretty, it was functional.
Thanks to the growing army of supporters, to Groot for helping and especially to Avril Davies and Laurence Ball for umpiring in the rain.
