I couldn’t find a suitable picture of a quiche

At a time when fast food outlets were still serving breakfast, the top two met on a sunbathed Sutton Valence morning. I wish I hadn’t used my “game of two halves” cliche last week, because this was exactly that.
The home side started well and looked dangerous on any of their numerous attacks, going 1-0 before the muffins were being cleared away. A superbly slick short corner saw Wotherds slam the ball at Griffiths T who deftly deflected the ball home, 1-1 and the pattern was set. Ash went 2-1 down shortly after that, and in the blink of an eye, 3-1. But one of this teams strengths is resilience, and a quick break down the ever productive right, led to Wells shooting, the rebound being fed to Parker, 3-2. Which then became 4-2 and 5-2. Then like a punch drunk boxer at the bell, Ash were saved by half time.
The team that came out for the second half cast a shadow of disappointment over that of the first half. Just to be clear, as I know some teams may be confused here, it was the same people in both halves.
More great work down the right led to the ball coming to Billane who collected, shot, scored, wheeled off in celebration and got back to halfway for the push back in one silky move. It’s 5-3 now, do try and keep up 007.
Another foray down the flank (can you guess which one) then led to Parker battling and fighting to force the ball home. 5-4, 10 minutes, siege time. As strong as Valence were in the first half, Ash powered forward time after time, true colours, girls just wanna have fun, but just could not find the equaliser they probably deserved. On another day, we could have had another 4.
Notable points from today, who knew you could punch a quiche and what a great idea to invite the umpire to measure 5 yards. But seriously, PoM Wells deserves special mention, playing out of position, he was calm, solid and the start of many of Ash’s best moves. Some not even down the right.
Thank you to our travelling support, Clan Herridge, Clan Coles, Clan Parker.
