So it was cold, dark and wet, which let’s be honest, isn’t news or even the most catchy opening line, but alas it is the truth. Always a tough fixture away at Holcs and today was no different, but only went to once again show the huge well that this team can keep going to drink from.
The first half was dominated by the home team, who went into the break 1 up, but without some excellent saves from Murphy, the damage could have been much more and perhaps unrecoverable. Possibly too much time spent ogling kitchen work services pre-game. Callum clearly felt he had played like two men, so grabbed himself two post game teas to celebrate.
Boosted by the return of our international pair, the Figean and the Q continuum, Ash came out firing in the second half but seemed doomed Captain Mainwaring to follow last weeks exploits as shot after shot hit the post. Then further trouble as Dragon T was injured and had to be replaced, if that’s even possible. Once again our very own youth section, or the three Musketeers as we now call them, Durrant, Mcteer and PoM Lake (hence the picture, answers on a postcard) all stepped up, were weighed, measured and found more than up to the task.
The dogged resolve and enterprising youth led to a chance for Dragon W to save his brothers blushes and the Welsh goal machine made no mistake, 1-1. As the home team pushed forward, Redman made a worldly tackle and the Q saved a short corner on the line, they shall not pass. Then a very rare green card for Hammond, for hitting the ball too hard, a problem not many of us have.
Thanks to the sarge for abandoning us, and to Gary and Steve for organising us.
As part of the wider hockey family and having had our own sad loss recently, our thoughts and best wishes go out to the family and friends of Imran Sherwani, not only a great player but a great man too.
