This is the end, my only friend the end

Glorious sunny day just outside Maidstone, perfect for a pitch side disco. Facing up against Holcombe, and I do mean most of their club, was always going to be tough. Given that ickle ole Burnt Ash had already won the league at a romp, whilst mighty Holcs were mid-way, they were also going to be determined to show us up.
And they did, all game, they played better hockey than us, created more chances, dealt with us easily and basically dominated the whole game. Well, apart from the last 6 minutes. You know what, I genuinely don’t care either.
1 down, 6 to go, the 4s did what they have done all season, managed to manufacture a winning spell from out of the middle of the cauldron of defeat.
A slick move saw Billane beautifully guide the home for an equaliser, before Parker stepped up to take a penalty stroke with less than 2 minutes on the clock.
The stroke was a work of art, powerful, accurate, un-stoppable and worthy of at least a dozen goals. Which makes Ralph top goal scorer in the club this year, about the only thing we had left to win.
Joint PoMs today were the Welsh Dragons, they work tirelessly, have a great team ethos and are a credit and asset to any Captain. Will, not happy with a little pushing match, decided to approach the next tackle head first, literally. Not sure he even had his stick in his hand, but George North, watching from the stands, was heard to wince!
So, that’s it, season over and a truly memorable one it has been.
I am proud to be part of this club, one that still displays all the traits of what hockey should be about, club, friends, family and competition. But I am immensely proud to have been a part of this team for this season. We grew together, we trusted each other, we bonded and gelled, we won games that we had no right to win, we dealt with pressure, with injuries, with bad luck, we just kept doing what we do, winning.
Thanks to all the club volunteers and umpires who have worked tirelessly and given up time to make our games possible, thanks to all the supporters who have come to our games. But thanks to everyone in the squad for making this year as truly remarkable as it has been, I am genuinely humbled but what we have accomplished, not just winning, promotion, league title, but the way we did it, together.
Player of the season I hear you ask? About 9:30 tonight I’ll share.
